"Siegwerk is an international manufacturer of printing inks for packaging. Since February until December 2018, I have been conducting an audit of their production facility at Annemasse, France. 270 employees work on-site, most of which I met during my inquiry phase.
The inquiry was conducted in 3 phases (February, March and May). In the first phase, the questionnaire “Bonjour !” was given to all the employees (including the management and the board of directors). Over one week I distributed 203 questionnaires and met many people. For the second phase, a game was conceived. Titled “La roue de la fortune” (The Wheel of Fortune), 3 players (A, B and C) respond to color-coded question cards (pink, blue and yellow), with each turn of the player decided by spinning a wooden wheel. Pink cards asks questions about “Arts”, Yellow cards on “Society” and Blue cards about “Labour”. Within a week, 57 people played the game with me. For the third and final phase, I invited the employees to participate in a writing exercise. Titled “Que fais-tu dans la vie ?” (What do you do for a living?), 133 pieces of dominos were printed on both sides with 266 words originating from different domains of work. Each participant picks 3 dominos by chance and with the words on the dominos, try to respond to the question: “What do you do for a living?”. The element of chance allows the participant to express things that are unexpected, sometimes poetic, sometimes absurd. 85 employees participated in the exercise, with more than 100 phrases written.
Throughout each phase, contact was continued with the employees by writing letters to keep them updated about the inquiry and to maintain the relationship formed between us. My main objective was to speak to people and invite them to express their thoughts, and to continue to do so like we have throughout the inquiry, I organized a vote for the employees to choose the form of report they would like to receive amongst three proposals presented. The form of the report was announced at the end of June.
The report is now written. It is a 7 pages document with a label. The pages and the label are painted on walls on 8 different locations from 3 buildings of the company. The inauguration of the report titled "Il s'est passé quelque chose." will be on December 13, 2018. "
